Passport

I'm applying for a passport under the CCA, if just in case for some reason it is denied does the State Department mail back the documents, birth certificate, parent's naturalization certificate etc? I ask because I have heard sometimes that they keep them and shred them because it was denied, which is horrible as getting another copy would take a long time.

They will return them, no matter what.
