Exclamation N600 question. Ron, please put this to rest once and for all

:) My wife and I received our US citizenship in 2006. Thank you Ron for your advice and guidance. Subsequently, we got a US passport for our minor child (14).

We plan to apply for a Certificate of Citizenship in the near future. However, we've been told that applying for Certificate of Citizenship is not necessary because minor children automatically become citizens with their parents.

My friends are giving my conflicting advices, some saying it is needed and others saying it is a waste of time and money ($460 is a lot of money these days):).

Ron, could you please put this issue to rest once and for all for us parents who are in the dark about N600 and Certificate of Citizenship? Also, do we need to include information on both parents on N600.

There is no legal requirement that someone have a certificate of citizenship. Even if you do, it is not conclusive proof of citizenship. Your children should get US passports and then keep them valid. That is conclusive proof.

Each office has its own unique demand and consequent processing times. There is no way to forecast a national average. Look on the CIS site for local office processing times.
