US citizen child of a US citizen parent

Hi Ron,

thanks for this wonderful site that helps a great deal for people like me.

My son was born abroad and became us citizen as I was U.S citizen at the time of his birth. I registerd his birth with U.S. consulate (certification of report of birth of a U.S citizen) and also got his U.S. passport which normally expires in 5 years. Unfortunately, during this time frame things started to get bad between me and my wife while she was waiting for her 1-130 petition approval and we separated. My son has been living wih his mother since then and now he is 8 years old. I am hoping to get his custody and would like bring him to U.S. His passport is expired and I need to renew it in order to bring him here. Can I renew his U.S. passport here in the U.S.or I have to go through U.S. Consultate abroad?

As you know, one of the requirement here for children's passport is both parent along with the child has to present at the passport agency. Not quite sure how to handle this?
please advise.

Under the circumstances, you would be better off applying for his passport through the nearest US consular post to his home overseas.
