N-400 Part 10 - Affiliations

My husband and I will be filing my N-400 in the next couple of days based on 3yrs of marriage.
I am confused by one of the questions on the N-400 form:

Part 10, B. Affiliations
Have you ever been a member of or associated with any organization, association, fund foundation, party, club, society or similar group in the US or in any other place? Yes/No
If Yes, list the names of each group.


What is the point of this question? I was part of a science club back in high school here in the US, part of an event planning committee at work now, try to volunteer from time to time, member of the local YMCA.... Would these count? Or is it okay to just answer "No" to this question?

Technically, they may all count. Although they are mainly interested in political organizations.
I listed the professional organizations I am a member of, e.g., IEEE and ACM, as well as fun-oriented clubs, like my local car club.
Easier than thinking about why they want the listing. It doesn't hurt.
