    Default N-600 denied

    Hi Ron,
I entered US in 2000, when I was under 18 and one of my parents was US citizen at that time. I filled for N-600 in New York then I moved down to St. louis MO and we informed INS about address change. By the time my case file came to INS office in St. louis I was over 18 and they denied my application coz according to the law I should have taken the oth while I was under 18 but its not my fault about the time it took in file transfer from NY to MO and coz of their mistake I had to suffer. I can't file n-400 coz I don't have continuence residence. Can I still do something about this case or can I get US passport.

Go apply for a US passport. Don't deal with CIS, they are idiots.

Thank you Ron for replying. I am 25 now, so in order to apply for US passport I can take my greencard showing that when I entered US I was under 18 and my parent naturalization certificate who was US citizen at that time. Do you think these document will help the clerks working at usps to understand my case.

If possible, apply at a US passport agency office. If not, then make complete copies of everything and send them to the passport agency by mail.

I called the passport agency and they told me that if my both parents were US citizen at that the time when I entered US only then I could apply for US passport. I am not sure that they are giving me the right info or not. What do you think about this Ron? coz when I entered US I was 17 and only one of my parents was a US citizen. Should I still go ahead and apply?

    Hi Ron,

I have one question regarding the certification of citizenship. Somebody said your child may need it "in future". What is the purpose of the certificate for a child in his/her future? My child got the US passport only. Is it necessary to apply N600 for her? Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you are a citizen, then the passport office must accept your passport application. If they have a problem with it, they will forward the application to the State Department in Washington. Insist on filing and insist that they forward your case if they can't approve it immediately.

Personally, I wouldn't file for an N-600. You already have conclusive proof of US citizenship. An N-600 establishes a presumption that a person is a US citizen. A valid passport establishes conclusively that someone is a citizen.

The problem with an N-600 is that the process is expensive and highly frustrating in that you have to deal with the CIS.
