I'll try to keep this simple but it's a little complicated. My wife is a citizen of Palau which enjoys the "Compact of Free Association". She can basically live and work anywhere in the U.S. She currently works for Continental Airlines as a Flight attendant and has for the past 15 years. We have been married for 10 years. The first 3.5 years were spent on Guam and the last 6.5 have been in Oklahoma City. During our time in Oklahoma she maintained an apartment in Guam due to her main base being there. She also filed taxes out of Guam during that time. She has now transferred to Newark NJ and is wanting to obtain a U.S. passport to help ease some of the problems that come up when you're flying with a passport from a country no one has ever heard of. Here's my questions:
1. Are you familiar with residents that fall under the "Compact of Free Association" trying to obtain Green Cards and or citizenship?
2. Since she has been living and working in the U.S./U.S. territories for 15 years, does she need to obtain a Green Card before applying for citizenship?
3. Since I am an active duty Military member, does that help whatsoever?
Thank you.
