N400 questions

Hi Ron,

I have a couple of questions I am hoping you can help with:

1) I was out of the country for 2 years and I had a rentry permit. However, the rentry permit was applied for after I had left the US and I had realized that I couldn't be back within a year. The rentry permit was granted and I rentered 4 years ago (after being out for 2 years and 4 months). The application for rentry permit states that it must be applied before you leave the US. Do you think that will be a problem when I apply for my citizenship?

2) I didn't file my taxes for 3 years after I became a permanent resident. For 2 of the years I was a student and I had no income. For the 3rd year , I was a student for half the year (no income) and worked abroad for half the year. My income in the 3rd year was less that the personal exemption. Is it sufficient to explain this in my application or do I need some documents from the IRS or any other documents? I have filed taxes for the last 4 years.

I don't think any of these will be an issue with your naturalization application. Just make sure that you disclose everything during the interview.
