    Default New member:N-440 / N-652 question

Firstly Thanks to Ron for having a wonderful forum and hello to everyone on this forum.

This is my situation with the N-400 application, I am not sure if I should worry.

    Prem resident since : 12/07/02
    N-400 Receipt Date : 3/20/08
    FP : 04/24/08 :
    Interview : 07/01/08
N-652 : Passed test all tests, "case cannot be determined at this time" ticked
Verbal Reason Given : Awaiting immigration file from another office

Wife was told verbally that we will get notified of the Oath ceremony and Interview part is done, waiting for file from another office related to her maiden name. I was told that I need *not* appear for more interviews and my part is done. The officer said he was waiting on an immigration file from another office.

My interview was pretty fast paced. I mentioned everything in the 5 yr window. And the officer did ask me about the stay with the Employer who sponsored my GC which was outside the 5 yr window and hence did not mention it in the form. I answered truthfully and the officer noted it down in the form. However in my case there is unusually short stay at the sponsoring employer as there was a layoff and I was effected. Not sure if USCIS has this information. Note I did work for the employer after I actually had the permanent resident status (as dated on the GC), the layoff happened after. I have all the proofs documentation, but was not asked about the details in the interview. The officer moved on to the the other questions and finally made me sign the photos and the two places in the form.

My current number 1 concern is if I was expected to voluntarily explain more than what I was asked about the employment dates and sponsoring employer ?. Do they make assumptions on such occasions or would have asked me more if they were hung up in this issue ?.

Currently I don't see anything else that is out of place in my application or case. Is this kind of a response on the N-652 usual ?.

It would seem to me that they are just waiting for the other file. I don't see anything in what you have written that gives cause for concern.

I called CIS support yesterday (its been 5 weeks since our interview). First level rep transferred me to second level officer. He looked up the info and said that the case is still with the local Boston DO and case is "Pending Background Check/File". He said files from National records. On asking if its just a file or also background check, he said both. And said it could take 1 month or 1 year. He told me tht I need to be patient.

    Congrats.
Too bad, though, that the oath is after the elections...
