Hi, I just had some questions about the required documents for the N-600.
I went through the whole naturalization process a little while ago, only to be told after taking the citizenship test that I was already a citizen, due to the fact that I was under the age of 18 when my mother became a citizen. The reason that no one noticed this before was that my mother's last name is different from mine from her second marriage, and that was the last name used when she became a citizen. I know, I should've really known this myself, I feel so dumb for wasting so much time with this.
Anyway, I received a letter afterwards stating that my application for naturalization was denied because I was already a citizen. Can I submit this letter as proof of my citizenship for the N-600? I do not have a US passport, and I really don't know what else I can use for this.
Secondly, the instructions state that I need a copy of my permanent resident card or other evidence of lawful permanent resident status. My permanent resident card is currently lost somewhere. I really don't want to have to spend the time and money to replace it (and also I'm confused as to whether or not I'm even suppose to have one anymore...) , so what else can I submit for this?
Other than these two things, I have my birth certificate and the necessary translations, my mother's marriage certificate, proof of residence in the US, and my mother's A#. Am I missing anything from this?
What I really need is a US passport for I job I'm looking at overseas and I need it as soon as possible (although I know its gonna take a while). Is there anyway to apply for a passport without waiting for my naturalization certificate?
This whole process has been really confusing and frustrating and I would really like to actually do it correctly and not have to wait around anymore. I feel like I can never get any clear answers whenever I ask questions at the immigration offices. Thank you for your time reading this.
