They need to increase the number of approvals a lot to get rid of the backlog.
It is interesting to see that the backlog was rising even before the July 2007 spike. They can't excuse things with the spike anymore (of course, they most likely will, anyway...)

Looks like USCIS is finally picking up steam on Naturalization applications but seems to come at a cost of other applications.
