    Some rather interesting facts came out of a recent criminal appeal in the case of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, Plaintiff-Appellee, v. CATHERINE ILEEN SPEAR, Defendant-Appellant. No. 06-1296 UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE TENTH CIRCUIT 491 F.3d 1150; 2007 U.S. App. LEXIS 15160.

    Pay particular attention to the defendant's initials.

    The following is an excerpt from the court's opinion:

    This could explain why the CIS no longer accepts checks made out to "CIS" or "USCIS".

    I want to bump this posting back up to the top. I've received a number of e-mails from people who tell me that they never received receipt notices from the CIS after sending in their petitions or applications. This, or something like it, could explain why.
