    Hi all,

Currently I am on H1B visa and my priority date is Jan 2011 - EB3. I did B.Com(3 yr) from India and to qualify into EB2 category, I am planning to do MS online from WGU(Western Governors University) which has regional and national accreditation but not listed under SEVIS schools.

Will there be an issue from USCIS if the university is no listed under SEVIS?

    Thanks in advance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but SEVIS is for F-1, right?

If so, WGU will not qualify you for an F1, they have no campus at all...entirely distance learning.

Jeff is correct. SEVIS is only relevant if someone is applying for student status. As long as the school is regionally accredited, the degree will be acceptable to the USCIS.

Thank you for the information Ron. Below is the information I got from WGU website. Looks like they are accredited at regional and national level.
Western Governors University is nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). WGU is also regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, one of the major accrediting commissions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

    Thanks to all oncegain.

Looks like WGU may have given up their National Accreditation:

So they are now only regionally accredited and not nationally accredited. Will this have any bearing on the validity of WGU degrees in support of EB2 applications?

Regional accreditation is the gold-standard for universities, oddly enough. National accreditation is actually easier to achieve.

The USCIS regulations do not define the term accreditation. Nonetheless, I've seen unpublished AAO decisions where online schools with only national accreditation were found to be "unaccredited" for immigration purposes.

Sorry for tickling this post, I am in the same boat as the Original Poster, can i safely assume that WGU is recognized by USCICS for immigration purposes. I have a 3 years bachelor from India and have 15+ years of exp. but stuck in EB3.

Western Governors' University is an excellent school and you will have no issues with accreditation.

    Ron,

I forgot to ask a question related to this in my earlier post ... on some forums i have seen sometime people mentioning about that, if u do your masters after filing GC, it's of no use from EB3 to EB2 perspective ...they say that Master's should have been done prior to filling GC or before getting work exp. Can i assume that this statement is false. So effectively once i am done with my Masters ( right now my EB3 140 is cleared ) and as long as the employer is looking for EB2 candidate , I will not have any issue ?

That is not true. The employee must meet all qualifications for the job offered when the PERM is filed. Experience gained with a sponsoring employer can be used, if the job offered is at least 50% different from the one in which the experience was gained. A degree gained while working for an employer may be used, provided the job offered is different.

    Dear Ron,

I am deciding on pursuing MBA in IT Management to be eligible for EB2. I read you post above that WGU is excellent and its Regionally accredited. Should it also be accredited by DEAC (Distance Education Accreditation Commission)? http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx
    Thank you.

Thank you for your kind wishes.

Regional accreditation is actually higher than national accreditation.

    Ron,

So, do you mean to confirm that University of Phoenix also accredited by USCIS? one of my friend joined recently for the MIS course.
