    Dear Ron-
I have a valid H1-B till July, 2018 and also have a I-140 approved. I understand that I cannot apply for a H1-B extension till January, 2018. However, I was hoping to apply for a new H1-B petition now (Not an extension, just a new H1-B with the same employer).
    Is this possible?
Will it affect the GC in any negative way ?

The idea behind this is to increase the validity of H1-B from 2018 to 2020 and the reason is because of all the executive orders flying around, you don't know what's in store for future. We were hoping to apply now and get it for further 3 years and hopefully by then we will get the GC.

Let us know sir, Thanks in advance for your help.

Your employer can file an amendment and ask for the extra time.
