Hi - I have had my Green Card through employment since December 2012 (writing this in March 2015), if my employer was to 'let me go' now am I ok to stay in the USA? Do I keep my Green Card? I believe I am ok, but want to check. Also, do I have to get a job in the same area of work or can I work in any field? Do I have to get a job at all (such as if I choose to stay home with children)? If I am out of work, with a Green Card, will I get any assistance from the government? Will any of the above delay or cause problems with my application for citizenship once I've had my card for 5 years? Thank you!!!

At this point, you are safe. You can do anything you want.
