I don't want to give up my residency. I want to live in the US for the long run. However I do want to take this job and work in London for a year or two. Is it possible to accept this offer and still keep green card? I don't want to take risks of losing my green card. This is a temporary job out of the country. Not a forever thing. Thanks!

Generally, a job abroad would have to be temporary with a clear ending date. An example is being on assignment abroad.
The important thing is that you keep lots of ties to the US. Family being here, having a house, car, bank accounts, etc. helps. Also, you have to file resident US tax returns and declare your worldwide income on them.
If you stay abroad for more than 1 year, you also need a reentry permit.
