I am a J-2 visa holder with an EAD which currently expires on 8/1/2017. My original DS2019 had an error on it and should have had an expiry date of 10/17/2017 instead of 8/1/2017. The error was made by the sponsoring institution. I recently started the process to get a new DS2019 issued for the period through to 10/17/2018 and I asked that the new DS2019 be for the period from 8/2/2017 to 10/17/2018 to cover off the period between the expiry date on my existing DS2019 and what that date should have been. Unfortunately, they wouldn't do that and have issued me a DS2019 through to 10/17/2017, and will issue me another DS2019 for the period from 10/18/2017 to 10/17/2018 when they get around to it (although that could be a few weeks away). In the circumstances, given the processing times, it seems the best course for me to minimize the risk that I will be without an EAD is to apply for a new one now for the period through to 10/17/2017 and then apply again once I get the new DS2019 for the period from 10/18/2017 to 10/17/2018. My question is this: assuming I apply for a new EAD for the period through to 10/17/2017 and then apply again for the period from 10/18/2017 to 10/17/2018 while the first application is pending, is there a risk that this will cause both to be rejected? In other words, will an application for an EAD which is made while there is already another application pending (albeit for a different period) cause any problems? Any advice would be appreciated.
