These are the same clowns who thought they could pass this legislation the first time around. Keep in mind that most of these folk believe that the universe is only 4.000 years old and that 2 + 2 equals whatever you want it to equal.

That story has to big holes. First, the bill does not need a "two-thirds majority" to advance. The sponsors need sixty votes to cut off debate and allow a vote. So far, the most they have gotten is 53 votes. Second, because of the language inserted by the House, the Congressional Budget Office scored this legislation as adding at least $25 Billion to the budget. As such, it will need 60 votes to pass, even if there is no filibuster.

    This bill is dead.

Even bill passes President will Veto it. So no real use. But anyhow the bill is to pressurise Obama get concessions and generally Obama does not budge even an inch.

It looks to me like the Republicans had it all planned out and expected the Senate Dems to just offer an amendment stripping the House Bill of the Immigration Language and then it would be passed in Senate and sent to the House where Boehner would use the paucity of time excuse to rustle up enough votes along with Democrats to pass it.

Unfortunately for the Republicans, things have not gone according to their plan (which I believe happened because they did not take the Dems and POTUS into confidence BEFORE they put their plan into action). Senate Dems saw through the plan and grabbed at the huge opportunity to embarass the Republicans.

They have taken a leaf out of McConnel's book and just filibustered the House passed Bill and are in no mood to let the Republicans off the hook, by offering the amendment. Dems are gonna drive the Republicans up the wall on this issue, simply because Republicans in their arrogance, took the Dems and POTUS for granted!

End Game? A compromise will most likely be reached by allowing Sen Mark Kirk (R) (IL) to offer the amendment stripping the Bill of the Immigration language and pass a clean DHS Bill in the Senate.

The idea of changing the rules to eliminate the filibuster won't work. Because of the language the House put in their bill, adding $25 Billion to the budget, it will take 60 votes in the Senate to pass the bill if it is ever voted upon.

I agree. This seems to have been a god sent opportunity for the Democrats.

Looks like Democrats were able to get a total surrender from the Republicans. I was thinking the amendment stripping the Bill of the Immigration language would come from some innocuous Republican Senator. But I guess, I was wrong.

Breaking stalemate, Senate votes 98-2 to debate 'clean' DHS bill

"Democrats will support getting on the House Homeland Security funding bill. In exchange, the leader will provide the only amendment, [it] will be a clean Homeland Security funding substitute," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said.

I have absolutely no idea where this is going. To me, the only options are (a) let DHS run out of money and shut down; or, (b) pass a clean spending bill. There isn't an option (c).
