Hi Ron,

I really like reading your forums because your answers are short and simple :) . I have a question regarding my 485 case. I have filed my 485 along with my wife's under cross chargeability. It has been 26 days since the fedex delivery to texas service center. I heard that you can put a service request after 30 days. Do these service request's really work? My wife F1 OPT is ending on sept 19th. There is a 60 day grace period for F1 students. If my 485 application is returned back or cannot be traced can I file another application while she is in the 60 day grace period or the 60 day grace period is not a valid status to file 485?

Thanks,

Hi Ron,

I am currently working as a contractor on H1B visa.I am currently employed with employer A and working on a project for company B(client). There are two layer of companies in between my employer A and client company B(say company C and company D).

I have now got a better full time opportunity and want to leave the company/project.Now the question is how much notice period i need to give?
I have not signed any contract but my employer A might have signed a contract with first level company C of notice period of 4 weeks.

So do I have to give notice period of minimum 4 weeks or I am still good to give notice of 2 weeks ?

Please advice!

Many Thanks!

Hello Ron,

Like many other Indians I have the following
Given Name: First Name Last Name Surname: Blank, on the passport
Given Name: FNU Surname:First Name Last Name, on the Visa (L1 Blanket)

And I have problem getting my SSN.
In the I-94 I wrote the name as in the passport was short of space for one letter and wrote it on top of the last box. To complicate my situation, the SSN office would not agree to it.

The Indian Consular Service offers Splitting of the name and issues a new passport. When I change my name and get a new passport, what happens to the following?
1. Visa
2. I-94

Would you advise a name split and get a new passport? If so what is the sequence of steps with respect to Visa and I-94?

I also have the following questions.
How would I link my visa on the old passport to the new passport?
Would you also tell me all the relevant places the name change has to reflect?

Regards,
Arvind

As many of you can imagine from my brief appearances on this board over the last week, things have been a bit hectic in our office recently. Fortunately, almost all of that is now behind us. In the last 45 days:

We moved into our new office in Calabasas, with all of the chaos any office move brings;

We upgraded our internal network, adding a new server and new workstations for everyone (which also involved migration of all office related documents);

We upgraded our case management system, including having to migrate all of the data from the old system to the new, undergo two days of in-house training on the new system, and customize it for our use;

We added two new staff members and have had to train them in our way of doing things;

We found that our Internet provider was not getting the job done and had to move to a new provider and set up the server and software there; and,

We have almost completed the migration to our new billing system.

The good news is that now that we have completed all of these tasks, we are a bigger, far more efficient office, and in a much better position to serve our clients. This also means that I am again free to spend a lot of time in the forum answering questions.

I was interviewed in Jun 2009 and the interviewing officer verified my application and said I should get GC whenever my priority date becomes current. Till now, my case is at NBC. Its like more than 1.5 yrs

I called USCIS to find out NBC should complete processing my application and forward to local service center, then local service center will take the final decision of issuing a GC. Since NBC has juridiction over the case, they cannot comment on processing time. I am not sure if anybody faced the same situation. I am bit worried if NBC will complete the procession.

Please advise on next steps.
